Life...

Oru naalil vaazhkai inge yengum odi pogathu
Maru naalum vanthu vittaal thunbam theyum thodarathu
Yethanai kodi kanneer manmithu vizhinthirukkum
Athanai kanda pinnum boomi ingu poo pookum

Karu vaasal vittu vantha naal thottu
Oru vaasal thediye vilaiyaatu
Kan thirandhu paarthal pala koothu
Kan moodi kondaal...?

Porkalathil piranthu vittom, vanthavai ponavai varuthamillai
Kaatinile vaazhkindrom, mutkalin vali ondrum maranamillai
Iruttinile nee nadakkaiyile un nizhalum unnai vittu vilagividum
Nee mattum thaan intha ulagathile unakku thunaiyendru vilangidum
Theeyodu pohumvaraiyil, theerathu intha thanimai
Karaivarum neram paarthu kappalil kaathiruppom
Yerimalai vanthaalkooda yerinindru poar thoduppom

Antha deiva ragisiyam purigirathe
Inge ethuvum nilaiyillai kalaigirathe
Manam vettaveliyile alaigirathe
Antha kaduvalai kandaal....

Athu enakku, ithu unakku - ithayangal podum thani kanakkku
Aval enakku, ival unakku - udalgalum podum puthir kanakku
Unakkum illai ithu enakkum illai padaithavane ingu eduthukolvaan
Nallavan yaar ada kettavan yaar - kadaisiyil avane mudivu seyvan
Pazhi podum ulagam inge, baliyaana uyirgalenge?
Ulagathin oram nindru athanaiyum paathiruppom
Nadappavai naadagamendru naamum sernthu nadithiruppom

Pala mugangalvendum seri maatikolvom
Pala thiruppam theriyum athil thirumbikolvom
Kathai mudiyum pokil athai mudithukolvom
Maru piravi venduma....?

Lyrics: Na Muthukumar
Music and Vocals: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Violin: Amalraj
Movie: Pudupettai

Awesomely captures the essence of life - Life is futile. God has created us to do something in this world, we do it and life ends. I am not much of a god-fearing person, and that has not changed much after I heard this, but this one is definitely the best phil song I have ever heard. No translation would do justice to the deep meaning in these words. Especially find these 2 sets of lines particularly striking:

Iruttinile nee nadakkaiyile un nizhalum unnai vittu vilagividum
Nee mattum thaan intha ulagathile unakku thunaiyendru vilangidum
Theeyodu pohumvaraiyil, theerathu intha thanimai

When you walk in the dark, even your shadow is separated from you
That is when you realise you have only yourself and no one else in this world
This loneliness does not end until you end up in your fire/funeral pyre

(This has the only touch of religionism in the song. Theeyodu pokum suggests that this is a Hindu view of life)

The 2nd set:
Ulagathin oram nindru athanaiyum paathiruppom
Nadappavai naadagamendru naamum sernthu nadithiruppom
Pala mugangalvendum seri maatikolvom
Pala thiruppam theriyum athil thirumbikolvom
Kathai mudiyum pokil athai mudithukolvom
Maru piravi venduma....?

We observe the world from a corner
We realise a drama is going on, and we also join in to play our part!
We will need many faces, we will wear them all
Our path may have many twists and turns, we will turn with it
We will finish the story as it unfolds and ends
Do you want to be reborn?

I would have ideally liked a one-second pause at the end of marupiravi venduma...the impact would have been much more.

Amalraj's violin is heavenly. It is not everyday that you listen to such gems. And the lyrics are out of this world! YSR has been criticized for $crewing up the song with his vocals, but I think he is the biggest strength of the song...this is just a common man on the street who has been awakened, and you dont expect him to sing in carnatic raagas! Any experienced singer would have $crewed it up.
If you havent listened to this yet, please do!

[Thanks to The Other (http://unmitigatedlearnings.blogspot.com) for the lyrics. I m still waiting for your detailed post on this :)]
