Why Swades should win an Oscar?

Plenty of reasons...

The central theme of the movie is very similar to Lagaan, which made it to the last 5 in reckoning for the prestigious award - the battle of one man motivating a whole village and triumphing against all odds...Mohan Bhargava in Swades is very similar to Bhuvan in Lagaan in this regard

The storyline seems to be something the people in the Oscars committee would love - A man who returns to his homeland, sees how backward the people are, motivates the whole village after removing the invisble barriers separating the villagers like caste system and illiteracy, works for their improvement, and ultimately leaves a dream job (A NASA scientist has prestige, money, securty and what not! He is actually a rocket scientist!!!) for the sake of his people...all this told in a pretty convincing fashion...The songs fit in perfectly holdin a lot of meaning, and the beauty of Indian villages is also very nicely captured in the movie...Mind you, this is not your stereotype masala Bollywood movie...

Plus most of the people in team Lagaan who pushed it aggressively at the Oscars last year will be at the helm of affairs yet again and will hopefully market Swades very well at the Oscars...

So will we finally be able to see the current darling of Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan, up on the stage during the Oscar awards presentation ceremony, carving a historic moment in Indian cinema...wait and watch!! For once, the scene looks really rosy...
