Mysore... Part I

Quite some days since i blogged...mainly bcoz of a rockin trip to Mysore this weekend...

All of us SCTian guys in Bangalore have been planning on a trip for quite some time now, and it finally happened...and I mus say all of us enjoyed every moment of it!

It began on quite a sleepy note as i was deprived of my now-accustomed 12 hrs of sleep, which was cruelly cut down to 3h 15m thanks to the train being at 10 and Majestic being some 25 kms frm my place...picked up a friend frm Koramangala on bike, had brkfst at a mallu hotel, and set off to the rly stn... I left teh bike at the parking lot at the station...and man, the place looks mindboggling! There are some 300-400 bikes crammed into 3-4 rows...it is a real logistical nightmare, and there is a guy appointed specially to fish out the bikes on the demand of the owner...

The train left at 10 sharp(!), decent crowd...but it was just a 3 hr trip (as per schedule), whch extended to 4 hrs thanks to the Indian Railways. With a growling stomach, 5 of us landed up at Mysore rly stn to be greeted by our Infy friend in Mysore.

Off we went to the hotel to dump our bags and rushed off to the nearest mallu restaurant for meals. As our luck would have it, meals was over by the time we reached there, and we hadto tuck into delicious Chicken Biriyani, Kerala parathas and chilly chicken. There was some conference of 'hijras' happening in the complex where the hotel was located, and you could regularly see one hijra or the other walkin in and out of the hotel...first time i was seeing 'hijras' in my life...they looked very much like u see in the photos and movies (for a change), the make-up, the dresses, the 'false' 'body parts', the charactersitic behaviour of clapping the hands as they talk...

Then it happened...the rain God seemed to be angry with us and unleashed some heavy rain effectively screwing up our first evening...but i was only too happy to catch up on the 9 hrs of sleep i missed out on :-)

The rain finally stopped sometime around 8 PM...we went off to dinner to have the meals we missed out on in the afternoon, and went for a walk around the city in the night...the beautiful palaces decorated by lights, the dirty pothole-ridden roads (jus as in Bangalore!), the statues which seemed to adorn every 'circle' at the junctions...Mysore looks every bit a historian's delight...

It was pretty late by the time we finished a decent walk around the town which was pretty small (maybe smaller than my hometown Thoruvananthapuram), but it is never late for an omlette, especially if it at an outlet by on the roadside! We made the trip back to the room gulping down piping hot 'double-omlettes'...and then settled down to play cards, which we did into the wee hours of the night...accompanied by some arbit music channels and 'Andaz Apna Apna' on Zee...thus ended the first day at Mysore...
